The goal of Trauma Affected Veteran Training is to equip public servants with a fundamental comprehension of US Military culture, traumas, triggers and stressors, and de-escalation techniques for dealing with Veterans in crisis. Moreover, public servants should be equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively and safely respond to a growing number of crisis incidents involving veterans, while also meeting proposed training guidelines related to trauma affected veterans.


The Trauma Affected Veteran Training aims to enhance the crisis intervention training techniques provided in basic Peace Officer licensing academies. The training will be designed to include hours of instruction, guest speakers, videos, class dialogue, and hands-on participation/role playing. Its main goal is to build confidence in public servants when they encounter a US Veteran in crisis.

  4. Gain an understanding of the significance of this training for public servants.

  5. Gain an understanding of the percentage of veterans residing in your local community.

  6. Gain a comprehensive understanding of the impact of military trauma on veterans.

  7. Gain a comprehensive understanding and definition of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  8. Gain knowledge about the historical and current activities of the Military

  9. Gain a comprehensive understanding of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

  10. Gain a comprehension of Military Sexual Trauma (MST) and its implications.

  11. Gain a comprehensive understanding of Moral Injury

  12. Acknowledge the commonalities shared by the police force and the armed forces.

  13. Gaining knowledge about typical offenses that could be committed by veterans affected by trauma.

  14. Showcase methods of de-escalating situations when interacting with veterans affected by trauma.

  15. The goal is to cultivate and exhibit effective listening abilities when engaging with a veteran impacted by trauma.

  16. Gain a deeper understanding of the challenges associated with depression and suicide in the veteran population.
